12.25.2014 Old Testament: Hag 1.9–11
To read the Bible in a year, read Haggai on December 25, In the year of our Lord 2014
By Don Ruhl
The Lord knew that His people suffered with a bad economy, but He also revealed why. They looked after their own things, and forsook His house. Therefore, He said,
“You looked for much, but indeed it came to little; and when you brought it home, I blew it away. Why?” says the Lord of hosts. “Because of My house that is in ruins, while every one of you runs to his own house. Therefore the heavens above you withhold the dew, and the earth withholds its fruit. For I called for a drought on the land and the mountains, on the grain and the new wine and the oil, on whatever the ground brings forth, on men and livestock, and on all the labor of your hands” (Haggai 1.9–11).
Do Christians sometimes suffer for the same reasons? How is your church doing? I do not mean the building, although, you might take a good look at it and see whether it needs anything done, but I speak of the body of Christ. Does your congregation have enough teachers? Is there a never ending call for volunteers for this and that, because no one will volunteer? Why don’t you do something about it?
