To read the Bible in a year, read Matthew 1 on January 1, In the year of our Lord 2015

Many people have criticized me over the years for preaching and teaching the Old Testament. Don’t they know it is God’s word? Anyway, please tell me how to understand the first sentence of the New Testament without using the Old Testament,
The book of the genealogy of Jesus Christ, the Son of David, the Son of Abraham… (Matthew 1.1).
Who is Jesus Christ? What significance is it, that He is the Son of David and the Son of Abraham? Please answer those questions without referencing the Old Testament.
Let me save you some time and frustration. You can’t do it. You have to know the Old Testament well to know the significance of Jesus being the Christ, and of His being a descendant of David and Abraham.
