01.02.2015 Old Testament: Gen 3.12–13
To read the Bible in a year, read Genesis 3–5 on January 2, In the year of our Lord 2015
By Don Ruhl
Between the man, the woman, and the serpent, the latter was the most evil, because Satan worked through the serpent. Yet, when God confronted all three in the Garden, after the man and the woman had eaten from the forbidden tree, both the man and the woman blamed someone else, but the serpent blamed no one,
Then the man said, “The woman whom You gave to be with me, she gave me of the tree, and I ate.” And the Lord God said to the woman, “What is this you have done?” The woman said, “The serpent deceived me, and I ate” (Genesis 3.12–13).
The man claimed he ate, because his wife gave him of the tree. The woman claimed she ate, because the serpent deceived her. As you read on, you discover that the serpent blamed no one. The man and the woman made their sin worse by shifting the blame, something that even the evil serpent did not do.
What do you do when you sin? Do you find someone to blame?
