Kish sent his son Saul find the family’s lost donkeys. Saul could not find them. Therefore, when he heard about Samuel, and that he was a prophet, and could tell Saul where the donkeys were, Saul went to him. However, Samuel revealed more than just lost donkeys, but told Saul that he would be Israel’s first king, and then Samuel anointed Saul as such.

Later when Saul met his uncle, Saul explained what he had been doing, but notice that he left out something,

Then Saul’s uncle said to him and his servant, “Where did you go?” So he said, “To look for the donkeys. When we saw that they were nowhere to be found, we went to Samuel.” And Saul’s uncle said, “Tell me, please, what Samuel said to you.” So Saul said to his uncle, “He told us plainly that the donkeys had been found.” But about the matter of the kingdom, he did not tell him what Samuel had said (1 Samuel 10.14–16). 

Knowing that Saul met with a prophet of God, Saul’s uncle naturally wanted to know what the prophet had said. However, Saul in his humility did not say anything about the kingdom. Later Saul’s attitude changed dramatically, and it was for his downfall. If you find yourself exalted, stay humble.
