David fled for his life from Absalom, but David also put his life in the hands of the Lord, and the Lord delivered David out of all his troubles. Therefore, he was able to return to Jerusalem,
There were a thousand men of Benjamin with him, and Ziba the servant of the house of Saul, and his fifteen sons and his twenty servants with him; and they went over the Jordan before the king. Then a ferryboat went across to carry over the king’s household, and to do what he thought good (2 Samuel 19.17–18a).
Men from Benjamin, Ziba, the servant to Mephibosheth of Saul, and the king’s household all returned with David to his city, where he would continue to do or to order good things to be done. That last part characterize the life of David, and it is why the Lord was with David every step of the way.
