Does Jesus test you?

Luke Bible Background

05.05.2015 New Testament: Luke 24.17–19a

To read the Bible in a year, read Luke 24.1–35 on May 5, In the year of our Lord 2015

By Don Ruhl

After His resurrection, Jesus joined two men who were walking and talking about Him. However, He restrained their eyes that they might not know it was Him, because He wanted to show them that they did not understand the Scriptures, as they thought they understood the Scriptures,

And He said to them, “What kind of conversation is this that you have with one another as you walk and are sad?” Then the one whose name was Cleopas answered and said to Him, “Are You the only stranger in Jerusalem, and have You not known the things which happened there in these days?” And He said to them, “What things?” (Luke 24.17–19a).

Can you see where these men were coming from, that someone was in Jerusalem and had no idea of the recent crucifixion of a miracle-worker and prophet from God? Yet, if they had understood the Scriptures, they would have known that the prophets did speak of the Messiah suffering.

Sometimes we get ideas in our head about how the Lord should operate, and when He does not, we get bent out of shape. Rather than that, read every word of the Scriptures and understand the entire message of the Bible.
