Getting cozy with future enemies

To read the Bible in a year, read Second Kings 20–22 on May 18, In the year of our Lord 2015

After Hezekiah recovered from his illness that should have been fatal, the king of Babylon heard about Hezekiah’s distress and sent letters and a present to him. When the representatives of the Babylonian king arrived, Hezekiah showed them all the treasure of Judah,

At that time Berodach-baladan the son of Baladan, king of Babylon, sent letters and a present to Hezekiah, for he heard that Hezekiah had been sick. And Hezekiah was attentive to them, and showed them all the house of his treasures—the silver and gold, the spices and precious ointment, and all his armory—all that was found among his treasures. There was nothing in his house or in all his dominion that Hezekiah did not show them (2 Kings 20.12–13).

Later, Isaiah explained to Hezekiah that because of Judah’s sins, the Lord would send the Babylonians against Judah and take all the treasure that Hezekiah had shown the Babylonian representatives.

While it is good to be friendly, we must beware of opening up our lives totally to people we truly do not know.
