Write down your troubles and read it to the Lord

Psalms Bible Background

07.29.2015 Old Testament: Psa 57.0

To read the Bible in a year, read Psalms 56–58 on July 29, In the year of our Lord 2015

By Don Ruhl

When death chases you down, what should you do? Death pursued David often, and we know it because he wrote about it, and spoke of it to the Lord. Psalm 57 begins with this preface,

To the Chief Musician. Set to “Do Not Destroy.” A Michtam of David when he fled from Saul into the cave (Psalm 57.0).

As you read Psalm 57, keep in mind that you are reading the words of a man who sought refuge from a king who was trying to kill him.

When death comes after you, do what David did. Write of your experience and read it to the Lord, and keep it that your family may know your thoughts, even after you are gone.
