Enemies but beloved

Romans Bible Background

08.12.2015 New Testament: Rom 11.28

To read the Bible in a year, read Romans 11.22–36 on August 12, In the year of our Lord 2015

By Don Ruhl

The falling of Israel caused the Lord to send His messengers to the Gentiles that they might hear the Gospel Message, thus provoking the Jews to jealousy and bring them back to the Lord. Therefore, Paul wrote,

Concerning the gospel they are enemies for your sake, but concerning the election they are beloved for the sake of the fathers (Romans 11.28).

The Jews became enemies to the Gospel, which then brought the Gospel to us Gentiles, yet, the Lord had chosen Israel to bring to the world the good news of salvation from the wrath of God, making the Jews beloved.
