The Lord works with us through the Scriptures

Psalms Bible Background

08.22.2015 Old Testament: Psa 119.65–72

To read the Bible in a year, read Psalm 119.49–104 on August 22, In the year of our Lord 2015

By Don Ruhl

How does the Lord work in our lives? One way is through His written word. Listen to the psalmist,

You have dealt well with Your servant,
O Lord, according to Your word.
Teach me good judgment and knowledge,
For I believe Your commandments.
Before I was afflicted I went astray,
But now I keep Your word.
You are good, and do good;
Teach me Your statutes.
The proud have forged a lie against me,
But I will keep Your precepts with my whole heart.
Their heart is as fat as grease,
But I delight in Your law.
It is good for me that I have been afflicted,
That I may learn Your statutes.
The law of Your mouth is better to me
Than thousands of coins of gold and silver.
(Psalm 119.65–72)

The Lord deals with us according to His word, and that is a good thing. He teaches us good judgment and knowledge as we believe His commandments. He lets us struggle, even suffer affliction that we might know to keep His word. Then we learn that the Law of His mouth is better to us than any amount of earthly wealth.
