08.25.2015 Old Testament: Psa 126.1–4
To read the Bible in a year, read Psalms 124–127 on August 25, In the year of our Lord 2015
By Don Ruhl
We can only imagine how terrible it was for the Jews when Babylon attacked and then took the survivors to Babylon. Seventy years later, the Lord brought the Jews back and the Bible shows the joy they had,
When the Lord brought back the captivity of Zion,
We were like those who dream.
Then our mouth was filled with laughter,
And our tongue with singing.
Then they said among the nations,
“The Lord has done great things for them.”
The Lord has done great things for us,
And we are glad.
Bring back our captivity, O Lord,
As the streams in the South.
The unlikelihood of Judah returning to its land was something that, in their minds, only happens in a dream. Nevertheless, the Lord brought them back, and in so doing filled their mouths with laughter and singing. They praised the Lord for the great things He had done for them.
Is not salvation from sin similar? Previous to salvation, we lived in the kingdom of darkness, headed for an eternity of darkness, but then the Lord saved us, He gave us the hope of eternal life!
