Solomon wrote most of the Book of Proverbs that we might understand a proverb, how one works, and how they apply to life. He declared,

To understand a proverb and an enigma,
The words of the wise and their riddles.
(Proverbs 1.6)

Wise men and women often speak in riddles. I noticed that even as a boy. I also noticed that by doing so, they made me think, because I could tell that it was a riddle and that by discovering its meaning, I would also learn something about life.

For example, when I was in my early 20s, still training to be a preacher, an older preacher said to us students, “If you can do anything else besides preaching, do it.” What? I thought he was crazy. I quit my backhoe job to be a preacher, not because I could not operate a backhoe, but I had to preach, and therein I discovered the meaning of his words of wisdom, or even riddle.

In order to preach, it is something that you have to do; you can’t do anything else, so to speak, because you think to yourself, “For if I preach the gospel, I have nothing to boast of, for necessity is laid upon me; yes, woe is me if I do not preach the gospel!” (1 Corinthians 9.16).

Therefore, read the Book of Proverbs, reading the chapter number that corresponds to the day, and you will gain the ability to understand a proverb, an enigma, the words of the wise, and their riddles, which will enable to you understand life, people, and God.
