09.09.2015 New Testament: 2Co 1.9–11
To read the Bible in a year, read Second Corinthians 1 on September 9, In the year of our Lord 2015
By Don Ruhl
Have you been told that you have an incurable disease, or have you had an experience that brought you close, too close, to death? If so, did you notice how your attitude changed? What suddenly became the most important things in life, and what former important things no longer seemed important?
Many people believe they are invulnerable and invincible, but death humbles them quickly, showing that trusting in yourself, believing in yourself, just does not cut it, as Paul wrote,
Yes, we had the sentence of death in ourselves, that we should not trust in ourselves but in God who raises the dead, who delivered us from so great a death, and does deliver us; in whom we trust that He will still deliver us, you also helping together in prayer for us, that thanks may be given by many persons on our behalf for the gift granted to us through many (2 Corinthians 1.9–11).
Can we raise ourselves from the dead? No, only God can raise the dead. Why then trust in yourself, or anything else? Trust in Him who holds the power of death in His hands.
