Surely we have all met the person who rants on and on, and we just have to listen to him, because he does not want to hear what we have to say. How do you deal with such a person?

A serpent may bite when it is not charmed;
The babbler is no different.
(Ecclesiastes 10.11) 

You need to charm him. Use wisdom to find a way to calm him down, charming him, then he will not bite you. Note, the passage does not say that you shall change him, only that this is a way of protecting yourself.
