09.29.2015 Old Testament: Isa 17.4–6
To read the Bible in a year, read Isaiah 16–18 on September 29, In the year of our Lord 2015
By Don Ruhl
God chose Israel to bring spiritual fruit into the world, but Israel often resorted to the gods of men, and for that, Israel’s glory faded,
“In that day it shall come to pass
That the glory of Jacob will wane,
And the fatness of his flesh grow lean.
It shall be as when the harvester gathers the grain,
And reaps the heads with his arm;
It shall be as he who gathers heads of grain
In the Valley of Rephaim.
Yet gleaning grapes will be left in it,
Like the shaking of an olive tree,
Two or three olives at the top of the uppermost bough,
Four or five in its most fruitful branches,”
Says the Lord God of Israel.
Now may the congregation of Christ learn that her reason for existing is to bear much fruit for Him by remaining with Him and in Him.
