Will no one help the victim?

Lamentations Bible Background

11.10.2015 Old Testament: Lam 1.17

To read the Bible in a year, read Lamentations 1–2 on November 10, In the year of our Lord 2015

In this new world in which we live, where everyone has a camcorder on their cell phone, I find it disturbing that often when a crime happens, everyone records it rather than helping the victim. Jeremiah knew the feeling,

Zion spreads out her hands,
But no one comforts her;
The Lord has commanded concerning Jacob
That those around him become his adversaries;
Jerusalem has become an unclean thing among them.
(Lamentations 1.17)

Yes, Zion, Jerusalem, had sinned, but the Babylonians were also sinners. Did any nation come to the help of Israel or Judah when they suffered at the hands of wicked people? In this case, no, but they all watched and some even enjoyed watching.

Let us all remember the Good Samaritan who did not merely look, but who rendered assistance.
