12.27.2015 Old Testament: Zec 5.9–11
To read the Bible in a year, read Zechariah 4–6 on December 27, In the year of our Lord 2015
By Don Ruhl
Zechariah saw a basket with a woman inside and an angel told the prophet that the woman’s name was, “This is Wickedness,” and the angel thrust her down into the basket and placed a lead lid on it. Next, the prophet wrote,
Then I raised my eyes and looked, and there were two women, coming with the wind in their wings; for they had wings like the wings of a stork, and they lifted up the basket between earth and heaven. So I said to the angel who talked with me, “Where are they carrying the basket?” And he said to me, “To build a house for it in the land of Shinar; when it is ready, the basket will be set there on its base” (Zechariah 5.9–11).
Two women, appropriately, then carry the basket with the wicked woman inside, to the land of Shinar, which is the land of Babylon, as though taking it far away from the people of God. If we stand with the Lord, He will not lead us into temptation, but will help us to overcome wickedness.
