Our enemy shall be crushed

Genesis Bible Background

01.02.2016 Old Testament: Gen 3.14–15

To read the Bible in a year, read Genesis 3–5 on January 2, In the year of our Lord 2016

By Don Ruhl

The serpent deceived Eve into eating the fruit of the tree from which God said she and her husband were not to eat. The serpent paid a heavy price for his deception,

So the Lord God said to the serpent:
“Because you have done this,
You are cursed more than all cattle,
And more than every beast of the field;
On your belly you shall go,
And you shall eat dust
All the days of your life.
And I will put enmity
Between you and the woman,
And between your seed and her Seed;
He shall bruise your head,
And you shall bruise His heel.”
(Genesis 3.14–15)

The serpent suffered then, but later he would suffer from the Seed of the woman, whom we understand to be Jesus, and He crushed the serpent, also known as Satan, under His feet by means of the crucifixion.

Life presents tough challenges and our enemy assaults us constantly, but the Lord works for us and we shall win.

  1. I was reading this last night as my bible reading plan for this year. The Spirit of God showed me something to ponder about the serpent. In the KJV, it says “upon thy belly shalt thou go..” That caused me to pause and ponder if the serpent was an upright moving beast before cursed to crawl on its belly. Just sharing the thought that came to me as I was studying. Yes life does do that tough challenge thing. However at Life Church Huntsville this morning, the pastor preached a sermon titled ” It will be accomplished” from Zech. 4 and it was such a great message to side with your message. All things will be accomplished, “tough challenges” and “enemy assaults” by the Spirit of God working and winning for us. amen. Amen. Amen.
