How many prophets did the Lord send before He sent John the Baptist? Only the Lord knows the number, but we do know that John was the last one before the arrival of the Messiah, for as Jesus the Messiah Himself said,

“For all the prophets and the law prophesied until John” (Matthew 11.13). 

Even the Law had its finality, and the Lord would add no more commands, statutes, and teachings, but with John, the Lord had sent His forerunner, who would announce to Israel and to the world that the Anointed One had finally arrived.
