Joseph lived in Egypt because his brothers got rid of him by selling him to Ishmaelites, who in turn sold him to an Egyptian. Yet, Joseph did not become bitter. When he saw his brothers 22 years later when they came to Egypt to buy food, he gave to them,
Then Joseph gave a command to fill their sacks with grain, to restore every man’s money to his sack, and to give them provisions for the journey. Thus he did for them. So they loaded their donkeys with the grain and departed from there (Genesis 42.25–26).
This, of course, was part of his plan to bring his younger brother Benjamin down to him, nevertheless, Joseph showed himself to be generous toward them, although he feigned anger for a while.
