02.03.2016 Old Testament: Exo 32.7–10
To read the Bible in a year, read Exodus 31–33 on February 3, In the year of our Lord 2016
By Don Ruhl
The God of Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob delivered Israel from the Land of Egypt, but Israel forgot quickly, because once they reached Mount Sinai, they made a gold calf, claimed that it delivered them from Egypt, and worshiped it. What an insult to God!
And the Lord said to Moses, “Go, get down! For your people whom you brought out of the land of Egypt have corrupted themselves. They have turned aside quickly out of the way which I commanded them. They have made themselves a molded calf, and worshiped it and sacrificed to it, and said, ‘This is your god, O Israel, that brought you out of the land of Egypt!’” And the Lord said to Moses, “I have seen this people, and indeed it is a stiff-necked people! Now therefore, let Me alone, that My wrath may burn hot against them and I may consume them. And I will make of you a great nation” (Exodus 32.7–10).
They so infuriated God that in speaking to Moses, God referred to Israel as, “Your people,” as though they were not His people.
Then God revealed to Moses that He was ready to destroy Israel and that He would start over with Moses! However, Moses did not seek the honor for himself, as you will see. He will quickly speak to God and refer to Israel as, “Your people.”
Let us not forget to whom the people that we sit next to in our worship services, belong.
