Is someone trying to breakdown your guard?

One way to catch someone off guard that you might win a debate with him is to do something that makes him drop his guard. The disciples of the Pharisees and some Herodians tried to do it with the Master Teacher,

And they sent to Him their disciples with the Herodians, saying, “Teacher, we know that You are true, and teach the way of God in truth; nor do You care about anyone, for You do not regard the person of men” (Matthew 22.16).

They acted as though they fully supported Him, giving Him a high compliment, but as you will discover, He did not fall for it, nor did He let His guard down. They spoke the truth about Him, but in truth, they did not believe their own words about Him.
