We may talk to people who exist in our same realm, this Earth, but when it comes to reaching beyond this realm, the Lord forbid Israel from speaking to the dead,

“A man or a woman who is a medium, or who has familiar spirits, shall surely be put to death; they shall stone them with stones. Their blood shall be upon them” (Leviticus 20.27).

This might seem harsh initially, but when people start talking to the dead, they cease speaking to God, the One who truly knows all things and who truly controls the heavens and the Earth. Beyond this realm, speak only to God.
