By Don Ruhl

The twelve saw Jesus do works that they had never seen before and they heard Him speak words that they had never heard before. His works and His words made Him very popular, but then He shook them up when He foretold His horrible death,

And He began to teach them that the Son of Man must suffer many things, and be rejected by the elders and chief priests and scribes, and be killed, and after three days rise again (Mark 8.31).

Peter for one, did not like what he heard and rebuked Jesus. However, Jesus only spoke what the Scriptures had prophesied, but what many of the Jews, including the teachers, had missed. This was not a small thing they missed, but one of the grandest themes of the Hebrew Scriptures.

Questions:

  • Is it possible that you are missing something of vital importance in your biblical knowledge?
  • Do you open your heart completely to receive whatever the Lord wants to teach you from the Scriptures?
