Politics won on the day Jesus died, but then politics failed the day Jesus sent Roman armies against Jerusalem to destroy the city and the temple. Politics won on the day of the death of Jesus, because Pilate wanted to gratify the crowd,
So Pilate, wanting to gratify the crowd, released Barabbas to them; and he delivered Jesus, after he had scourged Him, to be crucified (Mark 15.15).
If Pilate wanted to, he could have escorted Jesus out of the country under heavy guard, but the governor chose to please the crowd instead, leading him to authorize the scourging and the crucifying of the Son of God!
