03.31.2016 New Testament: Luke 7.47
To read the Bible in a year, read Luke 7.31–50 on March 31, In the year of our Lord 2016
By Don Ruhl
A Pharisee invited Jesus over for a meal. The Lord accepted, but when a woman, known as a sinner, came in and washed the feet of Jesus with her hair, and anointed His feet with fragrant oil, the Pharisee balked. After Jesus explained to the Pharisee that he had failed to shows other signs of hospitality towards Jesus, but that the woman did those things to a great degree, He finally said,
“Therefore I say to you, her sins, which are many, are forgiven, for she loved much. But to whom little is forgiven, the same loves little” (Luke 7.47).
Jesus did not deny the multitude of sins of this woman, but because she showed Him great love, He forgave her, which increased her love toward Him greatly.
- Have you thought of extreme ways that you can show the Lord that you love Him?
- Could you do what this woman did?
- If not, can you do some other things?
