04.01.2016 Old Testament: Jdg 6.22–24
To read the Bible in a year, read Judges 6–7 on April 1, In the year of our Lord 2016
By Don Ruhl
The Angel of the Lord appeared to Gideon, but the experience frightened him, even as it would have frightened us, but the Lord assured Gideon that he had nothing to fear,
Now Gideon perceived that He was the Angel of the LORD. So Gideon said, “Alas, O Lord GOD! For I have seen the Angel of the LORD face to face.” Then the LORD said to him, “Peace be with you; do not fear, you shall not die.” So Gideon built an altar there to the LORD, and called it The–LORD–Is–Peace. To this day it is still in Ophrah of the Abiezrites (Judges 6.22–24).
Gideon did not believe that he would survive the experience. The Lord did not rebuke the man for thinking that way, but did assure him that he would not die for seeing the Angel of the Lord, and the Lord put His peace upon Gideon.
Therefore, he honored the Lord with an altar that he named The-LORD-Is-Peace. The Lord had a job for Gideon, and he would not see death until he had completed that job. So it is with us all.
Questions:
- Do you seek the Lord’s will everyday or do you seek your own?
- Have you seen the Lord use you when you did not want to be used, or you wanted to do something else instead?
