Let God’s word come true

1 Kings Bible Background

To read the Bible in a year, read First Kings 8–9 on May 4, In the year of our Lord 2016

First Kings 8 records the magnificent prayer of Solomon as he dedicated the temple to the God of heaven, and part of his prayer included this,

“And now I pray, O God of Israel, let Your word come true, which You have spoken to Your servant David my father” (1 Kings 8.26).

Think of what Solomon said. He wanted the God of Israel to let His word come true, for He had made a promise, then Solomon called upon God to keep that promise.

When you come across promises that God has made to us, you can pray the same thing, but be sure you are ready and that you have devoted yourself to following the God of Israel, even as Solomon had been, and God shall do as He promised.

Questions:

  • Do you know of any promises in the Bible, especially the New Testament, that God means for you?
  • Are you ready for Him to fulfill those promises?
