How many different matters affect the economy? War certainly affects it, as it did when Syria besieged Samaria,

And it happened after this that Ben-hadad king of Syria gathered all his army, and went up and besieged Samaria. And there was a great famine in Samaria; and indeed they besieged it until a donkey’s head was sold for eighty shekels of silver, and one-fourth of a kab of dove droppings for five shekels of silver (2 Kings 6.24–25).

You can imagine what that would be like. If an army surrounds a city, suddenly everything, even menial things like a donkey’s head and dove manure, become expensive.

However, ultimately the Lord of heaven and Earth controls the economy, for in this case, He allowed Syria to attack Samaria, because of its sins.

Questions:

  • How do you view your nation’s economy?
  • Do you believe the Lord has anything to do with your economy?
