07.15.2016 – New Testament: Acts 19.13–14
To read the Bible in a year, read Acts 19.1–20 on July 15, In the year of our Lord 2016
By Don Ruhl
Having power over the world of the spirit, hence of spirits, is not a matter of simply saying the right words, but one had to have authority from the Lord to cast out demons,
Then some of the itinerant Jewish exorcists took it upon themselves to call the name of the Lord Jesus over those who had evil spirits, saying, “We exorcise you by the Jesus whom Paul preaches.” Also there were seven sons of Sceva, a Jewish chief priest, who did so (Acts 19.13–14).
They heard Paul declare the name of Jesus when casting out demons, and so these exorcists saw the name of Jesus as a magical thing, but they would soon find out how wrong they had been.
- Is Jesus merely a good luck charm to you?
- Do you believe He is real?
