By Don Ruhl

What was ancient Zion? It was the City of God, the capital of His nation on the Earth. Therefore, the sons of Korah wrote in Psalm 48,

Walk about Zion,
And go all around her.
Count her towers;
Mark well her bulwarks;
Consider her palaces;
That you may tell it to the generation following.
For this is God,
Our God forever and ever;
He will be our guide
Even to death.
(Psalm 48.12–14)

They told the ancient Israelites to look over Zion, and note all her features, and know that it stood as God’s representative on the Earth, which is what the church does now.

Let us also look over the church, the true Zion, and note all her features, and know that this is all about God, as the Book of Hebrews declares,

You have come to Mount Zion and to the city of the living God, the heavenly Jerusalem, to an innumerable company of angels, to the general assembly and church of the firstborn who are registered in heaven, to God the Judge of all, to the spirits of just men made perfect, to Jesus the Mediator of the new covenant, and to the blood of sprinkling that speaks better things than that of Abel (Hebrews 12.22–24).

Questions:

  • What do you think of the church?
  • What does God think of the church?
  • Does your view match His view?
