Built to be destroyed

Isaiah Bible Background

10.01.2016 – Old Testament: Isa 23.13

To read the Bible in a year, read Isaiah 22–23 on October 1, In the year of our Lord 2016

By Don Ruhl

Sometimes people build something and someone else destroys it. Sometimes people build something and destroy it later themselves. Isaiah said,

Behold, the land of the Chaldeans,
This people which was not;
Assyria founded it for wild beasts of the desert.
They set up its towers,
They raised up its palaces,
And brought it to ruin.
(Isaiah 23.13)

People and nations do not always realize what they are doing until they have already destroyed their work. Let us keep our eyes open to the possibility that we might hurt a project or person, when we never intended it.

Questions:

  • Have you harmed a work unintentionally?
  • What did you do to fix it?
