The Lord keeps His promises

Isaiah Bible Background

10.14.2016 – Old Testament: Isa 54.9–10

To read the Bible in a year, read Isaiah 53–55 on October 14, In the year of our Lord 2016

By Don Ruhl

The Lord flooded the Earth in the days of Noah. Afterward He promised that He would never flood the entire Earth again. Has He kept His promise? Yes, He has. We have local floods, but never again has the water covered all the Earth. Therefore, hear what the Lord says further,

“For this is like the waters of Noah to Me;
For as I have sworn
That the waters of Noah would no longer cover the earth,
So have I sworn
That I would not be angry with you, nor rebuke you.
For the mountains shall depart
And the hills be removed,
But My kindness shall not depart from you,
Nor shall My covenant of peace be removed,”
Says the LORD, who has mercy on you.
(Isaiah 54.9–10)

Praise the Lord that He has kept this promise, but we know that He has made another promise relative to the Earth, that He will destroy it with fire. On that day, we each need to make sure that we are already Christians, for if not, we shall experience the fire.

  • How has the Lord shown you kindness?
  • Have you returned that kindness?
