10.20.2016 – Old Testament: Jer 3.22–25
To read the Bible in a year, read Jeremiah 3–4 on October 20, In the year of our Lord 2016

Some Christians return to the Lord and His church in a sneaky way, but when the Lord calls fallen Christians to return, they do well to state it to the Lord and to His church. See how Israel returned to Him,
“Return, you backsliding children,
And I will heal your backslidings.”
“Indeed we do come to You,
For You are the LORD our God.
Truly, in vain is salvation hoped for from the hills,
And from the multitude of mountains;
Truly, in the LORD our God
Is the salvation of Israel.
For shame has devoured
The labor of our fathers from our youth—
Their flocks and their herds,
Their sons and their daughters.
We lie down in our shame,
And our reproach covers us.
For we have sinned against the LORD our God,
We and our fathers,
From our youth even to this day,
And have not obeyed the voice of the LORD our God.”
He told them to return and they said that they did, telling Him so, and Jeremiah knew about it, evidenced by his recording of it.
They confessed that their help did not come from anywhere but from the Lord, and for having gone away, they could see that shame had devoured them. They came out and said that they had sinned.
- Do you make excuses for your sin?
- Do you confess your sin, whether anyone influenced you or not?
