10.26.2016 – Old Testament: Jer 17.21–23
To read the Bible in a year, read Jeremiah 17–19 on October 26, In the year of our Lord 2016

To us, the Lord’s teachings seem difficult to follow, but that comes from our lack of desire to do as He wants. Truly, what He asks us to do, is not complicated or difficult, as He told the nation of Judah,
Thus says the LORD: “Take heed to yourselves, and bear no burden on the Sabbath day, nor bring it in by the gates of Jerusalem; nor carry a burden out of your houses on the Sabbath day, nor do any work, but hallow the Sabbath day, as I commanded your fathers. But they did not obey nor incline their ear, but made their neck stiff, that they might not hear nor receive instruction (Jeremiah 17.21–23).
How difficult was resting on the Sabbath? In this case, He was telling them not to do anything, like telling Adam and Eve not to eat from the tree of the knowledge of good and evil. Yet, even as Eve, then Adam violated the simple prohibition, so Judah broke the simple prohibition!
Questions:
- Is there a simple command or prohibition that you violate?
- Why?
