What does the Holy Spirit witness to us?

Hebrews Bible Background

11.13.2016 – New Testament: Heb 10.15–18

To read the Bible in a year, read Hebrews 10.1–23 on November 13, In the year of our Lord 2016

By Don Ruhl

The Spirit of God speaks to us through the Scriptures, and He uses both Old and New Testaments to speak of something of which He is very familiar,

But the Holy Spirit also witnesses to us; for after He had said before, “This is the covenant that I will make with them after those days, says the LORD: I will put My laws into their hearts, and in their minds I will write them,” then He adds, “Their sins and their lawless deeds I will remember no more.” Now where there is remission of these, there is no longer an offering for sin (Hebrews 10.15–18).

The Holy Spirit wants us to know that He saw the events leading up to the remission of our sins. He knew of God’s plan and He saw God implement His plan, offering up Jesus as a sacrifice and an offering for sins, so that we no longer have a need to offer up animal sacrifices! Praise the Lord!

Questions:

  • What was required that you might have the remission of your sins?
  • What did Jesus give up to free us from sin?
