12.23.2016 – Old Testament: Hab 2.4
To read the Bible in a year, read Habakkuk on December 23, In the year of our Lord 2016
By Don Ruhl
You may not hear the Book of Habakkuk referenced much, but as the word of God it does teach valuable things. In fact, the New Testament, more than once, uses one passage in particular,
“Behold the proud,
His soul is not upright in him;
But the just shall live by his faith.”
Paul quoted the last line in Romans 1.17, and the writer of the Book of Hebrews quoted Habakkuk 2.3–4 in Hebrews 10.37–38.
The Lord speaking through Habakkuk declared that the proud do not have upright souls, whereas the just live by their faith. The proud have faith in themselves, but the just live by faith in the Lord, and their reward is life itself.
- By what do you live?
- What is the condition of your soul?
