01.06.2017 – Old Testament: Gen 16.5–6
To read the Bible in a year, read Genesis 15–17 on January 6, In the year of our Lord 2017
By Don Ruhl
Sarai thought that she would help the Lord give her and Abram children to fulfill the Lord’s promise to her husband, and Abram went along with it. She gave her handmaid to Abram that the promised seed might come through Hagar and her child. Hagar did conceive, but then she despised Sarai, because Hagar thought this made her a better woman. The Bible says though,
Then Sarai said to Abram, “My wrong be upon you! I gave my maid into your embrace; and when she saw that she had conceived, I became despised in her eyes. The LORD judge between you and me.” So Abram said to Sarai, “Indeed your maid is in your hand; do to her as you please.” And when Sarai dealt harshly with her, she fled from her presence (Genesis 16.5–6).
Things always work better when we follow the Lord’s plans and wishes.
- Why do we think the Lord needs our help?
- Do you know what has been the long term result of what Abram and Sarai did?
