Are you willing to receive it?

Matthew Bible Background

01.14.2017 – New Testament: Matt 11.13–14

To read the Bible in a year, read Matthew 11 on January 14, In the year of our Lord 2017

Jesus spoke highly of John the Baptist, associating him with one of the greatest prophets ever,

“For all the prophets and the law prophesied until John. And if you are willing to receive it, he is Elijah who is to come” (Matthew 11.13–14).

If John fulfilled the prophecy of Elijah coming before the Lord Himself came into the world, then the Lord stood among them in the first century and most knew it not. Those listening to Jesus speak those words, saw something magnificent in Jesus, but did they know fully who stood before them!

Questions:

  • Are you willing to receive the fact that the Creator became a human?
  • In what ways was John like Elijah?
