From tramped upon to tramping in the end

Genesis Bible Background

01.21.2017 – Old Testament: Gen 49.19

To read the Bible in a year, read Genesis 49–50 on January 21, In the year of our Lord 2017

By Don Ruhl

Just before Jacob died, he revealed to his sons what they, or actually their tribes, would be like. He said only this much about Gad,

“Gad, a troop shall tramp upon him,
But he shall triumph at last.”
(Genesis 49.19)

Some of the other brothers had much more said about them, and others had about the same amount. However, what Jacob said of Gad was significant, because although he would lose initially, he would win at the last, and that is when it counts.

Questions:

  • Have you been beaten down?
  • Do you believe that if you continue to do what is right, you shall win at last?
