Faith, prayer, and fasting

Matthew Bible Background

01.24.2017 – New Testament: Matt 17.19–21

To read the Bible in a year, read Matthew 17 on January 24, In the year of our Lord 2017

We want to do good things, and solve problems, but sometimes it seems beyond our ability. What then do we do? Listen to Jesus when His disciples stated that they could not do something,

Then the disciples came to Jesus privately and said, “Why could we not cast it out?” So Jesus said to them, “Because of your unbelief; for assuredly, I say to you, if you have faith as a mustard seed, you will say to this mountain, Move from here to there, and it will move; and nothing will be impossible for you. However, this kind does not go out except by prayer and fasting” (Matthew 17.19–21).

Some demons they could cast out, but in this case, they could not. Therefore, they wanted to know why. He revealed that they needed faith, prayer, and fasting. All three of those things put us in touch with the power that supersedes us, the Creator of the Heavens and the Earth.

Questions:

  • Do you have faith?
  • Do you pray?
  • Do you fast?

  1. I have in the past. I am preparing myself to begin a 21 day fast and prayer with my big sister and prayer partner. Pray that we make it through for we are so tired of sickness attacking us. And yes, I have faith and at times unbelief, But God. 🙂
