The power of Christians in unity

Matthew Bible Background

01.25.2017 – New Testament: Matt 18.19–20

To read the Bible in a year, read Matthew 18.1–20 on January 25, In the year of our Lord 2017

By Don Ruhl

If a brother sins against you, talk to him. If he does not repent, take others with you and talk to him again. If he does not hear all of you, bring it up to the church. If he does not listen to the church, treat him like a heathen. Jesus assured us that He will do the same when the church so acts. He said further,

“Again I say to you that if two of you agree on earth concerning anything that they ask, it will be done for them by My Father in heaven. For where two or three are gathered together in My name, I am there in the midst of them” (Matt 18.19–20).

The Father in Heaven hears the unified voices of His children. He listens and does what they have agreed to do as they function according to His will! He does so, because His Son dwells among them!

Questions:

  • Are you part of a congregation of the Lord’s people?
  • What are you doing to promote good works and discipline among the congregation?
