Do you test the Lord?

Matthew Bible Background

02.02.2017 – New Testament: Matt 22.17–18

To read the Bible in a year, read Matthew 22.1–22 on February 2, In the year of our Lord 2017

By Don Ruhl

The Pharisees wanted to entangle Jesus in His speech. Therefore, they sent some of their disciples along with the Herodians to test Jesus with a question, hoping that He would incriminate Himself, but they soon discovered that He knew what they sought to do,

“Tell us, therefore, what do You think? Is it lawful to pay taxes to Caesar, or not?” But Jesus perceived their wickedness, and said, “Why do you test Me, you hypocrites?” (Matthew 22.17–18).

The Lord knows everything, including our intentions, or our motives behind the questions we ask. He knows whether we truly want to learn or whether we are trying to trip Him up or someone else.

Questions:

  • Do you test the Lord?
  • If so, why?
