The most important thing

Matthew Bible Background

02.03.2017 – New Testament: Matt 22.40

To read the Bible in a year, read Matthew 22.23–46 on February 3, In the year of our Lord 2017

By Don Ruhl

A lawyer tested Jesus by asking Him which commandment is the greatest in the Law, to which Jesus responded that loving God with your total being and loving your neighbor as yourself were the first and second greatest commandments. Then He added,

“On these two commandments hang all the Law and the Prophets” (Matthew 22.40).

What then could be more important than love? Therefore, with all that we are and with all that we have, we should guide my lives toward loving God and loving people.

Questions:

  • Where have you placed love among the teachings of religion?
  • Why do you think love tops all things?
