02.10.2017 – New Testament: Matt 26.1–2
To read the Bible in a year, read Matthew 26.1–19 on February 10, In the year of our Lord 2017
By Don Ruhl
The time came quickly for the Jews to kill the Passover lamb, and the true Passover Lamb. Matthew wrote,
Now it came to pass, when Jesus had finished all these sayings, that He said to His disciples, “You know that after two days is the Passover, and the Son of Man will be delivered up to be crucified” (Matthew 26.1–2).
For centuries the Jews had killed the Passover lamb, remembering the deliverance of their ancestors from Egyptian bondage, but all of that prefigured the killing of the true Passover Lamb, who would free them and the rest of the world from the bondage of sin.
Did the disciples get the connection when Jesus mentioned both the Passover and His killing? I doubt it. I would not have. Would you? However, later Paul referred to Jesus as our Passover (1Co 5.7).
- Do you see your past life in sin as a life of bondage?
- Are you still in bondage to some sin?
