03.12.2017 – Old Testament: Deu 18.3–5
To read the Bible in a year, read Deuteronomy 17–19 on March 12, In the year of our Lord 2017
By Don Ruhl
Why did Israel have to give their sacrifices to the priests? Did the priests devise the system of worship that they might benefit from it, and get rich from the people? No, what Israel gave, they did in accordance with the wishes of the Lord of Heaven,
“And this shall be the priest’s due from the people, from those who offer a sacrifice, whether it is bull or sheep: they shall give to the priest the shoulder, the cheeks, and the stomach. The firstfruits of your grain and your new wine and your oil, and the first of the fleece of your sheep, you shall give him. For the LORD your God has chosen him out of all your tribes to stand to minister in the name of the LORD, him and his sons forever” (Deuteronomy 18.3–5).
Even as you pay a carpenter for the work that he does for you, so the Lord wanted Israel to give the priests their due, for they ministered directly to the Lord on behalf of Israel.
- Do you think you should pay for what you receive from others, or do you want everything in life to be free?
- If you want free things, do you give free things?
