03.14.2017 – New Testament: Mark 14.66–68
To read the Bible in a year, read Mark 14.51–72 on March 14, In the year of our Lord 2017
By Don Ruhl
Peter declared to the Lord boldly that he would never deny the Lord, even to the point of imprisonment or death. Then when his bold promise of loyalty undergoes a test, he fails,
Now as Peter was below in the courtyard, one of the servant girls of the high priest came. And when she saw Peter warming himself, she looked at him and said, “You also were with Jesus of Nazareth.” But he denied it, saying, “I neither know nor understand what you are saying.” And he went out on the porch, and a rooster crowed (Mark 14.66–68).
Peter thought he would stand up courageously to soldiers, but then a servant, who was a girl, simply stated that he was with Jesus, Peter denied it!
We can promise what heroes we would be, but our loyalty will undergo a test, and we had better be ready for the power of that opposition, because it may come in a form that we did not anticipate.
- In your heart, do you want to confess Jesus in all circumstances?
- Have you prayed that you might not fall apart before evil?
