The dastardly deed that shook the Earth and veiled the Sun was done. Next, something had to be done with the body of Jesus of Nazareth,
Now when evening had come, because it was the Preparation Day, that is, the day before the Sabbath, Joseph of Arimathea, a prominent council member, who was himself waiting for the kingdom of God, coming and taking courage, went in to Pilate and asked for the body of Jesus (Mark 15.42–43).
This good man knew that something had to be done. He did not wait for others. He did not complain, saying, Why doesn’t someone do something about the body of Jesus? Joseph just went to the Roman governor and asked permission to take the body of Jesus.
Joseph was probably the kind of man who did this in other parts of his life, so when the Lord needed someone to take care of His body, He knew that Joseph would do it.
- Can the Lord depend upon you to look after His things, such as caring for the church?
- Have you been buried with Jesus in baptism?
