Quieting a demon

Luke Bible Background

03.25.2017 – New Testament: Luke 4.35

To read the Bible in a year, read Luke 4.33–44 on March 25, In the year of our Lord 2017

By Don Ruhl

A man with an unclean spirit approached Jesus, and the demon cried out to Jesus to leave him alone. The demon also confessed the true identity of Jesus of Nazareth. Then the Bible says,

But Jesus rebuked him, saying, “Be quiet, and come out of him!” And when the demon had thrown him in their midst, it came out of him and did not hurt him (Luke 4.35).

Such powerful words, Jesus spoke! He simply told the demon to be quiet, and to come out of the man, and the demon did as told! Amazing. Just who is Jesus of Nazareth?

Questions:

  • What do you think demons are?
  • How do demons know the identity of Jesus?
