04.07.2017 – Old Testament: Jdg 20.18
To read the Bible in a year, read Judges 20–21 on April 7, In the year of our Lord 2017
By Don Ruhl
The tribes of Israel had to punish the city of Gibeah in Benjamin, and the rest of the tribe of Benjamin came out to defend Gibeah and to fight Israel. The tribes sought the Lord’s leadership, asking Him who should lead the battle,
Then the children of Israel arose and went up to the house of God to inquire of God. They said, “Which of us shall go up first to battle against the children of Benjamin?” The LORD said, “Judah first!” (Judges 20.18).
What a sad day it was, that Israel even had to fight against one of their own, yet, Benjamin would not turn over the wicked men, but insisted on defending the extreme wickedness of Gibeah.
In this episode the Lord shows what tribe would eventually serve as the leading tribe in other matters, He selected Judah as the tribe that would give Israel its kings.
- When something needs to be done in the church (not the building, but the people), do you consult the Lord first?
- Do you know how to pray for leadership?
